CanMediate International is committed to providing innovative, unique approaches to help you, as an individual, conflict resolution practitioner, or group member, enhance your capacity to resolve conflict and improve your relationships resulting in a better quality of life for you (and those around you!!). We’d also like you to have some fun while you’re at it! To that end, we wanted to let you know about a few things that separate our Company from the crowd. Improvisation: Improvisation has been described an art form through which people explore intuitive processes and manage spontaneously generated ideas, inspirations and moments. It has also been described as fun, exciting, and liberating! A few years ago, our president, Ruth Sirman, began to notice some incredible similarities between the skills that she used as a conflict resolution practitioner and trainer, and those honed as a member of her local improv group. As she took a deeper look, she became convinced that these similarities were not, in fact, coincidental- there was a wealth of knowledge and skill that could be directly applied from her one passion to the other. With this insight, she now consciously incorporates the principles of improv into many of her workshops and training modules with the goal of helping people to develop and enhance their conflict resolution capacity. Improv is a discipline that, like all others, must be practiced. To hone and develop these skills, Ruth uses a number of improv games which are designed to help participants become more adept at thinking on their feet, listening and working with what is offered by other players and being ‘in the moment’. Often, this will involve an element of risk taking – doing something different, moving out of the comfort zone, and trying something that is unfamiliar and perhaps a bit scary! If you would like to take a small (or big) step out of your ‘comfort zone’ in a structured and supportive environment…while learning new and unique methods to remain present while dealing with conflict, then CanMediate International can help- contact us today to speak with an associate! Outdoor Learning Opportunites: Over the course of our lifetimes, technological advances have dramatically changed the way we work and do business. We now operate in a globally connected, ‘wired’ world, where the lines between self and job have become increasingly blurred. In cities, we exist inside a man-made, prefabricated jungle. Our main exposure to nature is often the wilting office plant in our cubicle, or what we can see from within our cars as we wait in the rush-hour commute. This type of lifestyle has had some unexpected costs. Anger, stress, anxiety and a decreasing ability to self reflect and find calmness are but some of the symptoms that many are experiencing. As the level of tension and stress increases, so does the potential for conflict. It has been said that we do not own our world – we borrow it from then next generations - our children and their children. As trainers and conflict resolution practitioners, our staff has observed the increasing disconnect between man and environment. This often manifests as a lack awareness of the impact of our actions, both towards nature, and towards other people. For these reasons, CanMediate International has decided to expand our provision of training programs - taking them ‘out of the classroom’ and back into nature! We are very pleased to offer this unique opportunity for learning, reflection and invigoration. Using the outdoors as our medium, we have partnered with various outfitting and expedition organizations to be able to provide your group with a workshop or learning experience that is unlikely to be forgotten! If you are interested in learning more about our outdoor training program, or would like to find out if such an activity would work for your group, don’t hesitate to contact us - we will be pleased to provide you with more information and answer any questions you might have. Individualized Approach
When you work with CanMediate International, you are assured of a custom designed approach which is tailored to meet your specific needs and requirements. Our associates operate with the understanding that each person is unique, and, as a result, each conflict is a unique event. Thus, while theories and skills are vital to our understanding of conflict, there is no ‘cookie cutter’ solution. An approach that will work successfully in one case may not have the same result in another. Our president, Ruth Sirman, can often be heard telling clients: ‘My aim is to work myself out of a job! To this end, we are dedicated to building capacity within the groups which we work with - leaving them with the skills needed to manage future interactions. Our consulting, training and conflict resolution services also follow this philosophy - avoiding band aid solutions in favor of an approach that will help your organization or group repair their relationships from within. Contact us to speak directly with an associate- you will see what we are talking about!
